Amongst the accommodation providers of Penzance, there had been polite murmurings of disquiet for eighteen months or so.

As the worldwide share of the market of the online booking agents ballooned, it became progressively more difficult for small, genuinely independent businesses to hold their own in a cut-throat market, even though they were the ones providing the product; providing good quality, memorable and friendly holiday experiences for thousands of happy visitors a year. So over the winter of 2016/17 a core group got together to decide what could be done about it. They were already members of the Penzance and District Tourism Association, which exists to promote tourism and tourism providers in the area, and which also provides an opportunity for these self employed people to meet socially and share experiences. Over many meetings in houses and pubs during the winter, countless pints of Wolf Rock were enjoyed, ideas were shared, thrashed out, rejected, reformed and fine tuned, and the result is this website.

Using it to book your accommodation means the income which is generated from your stay remains in the place you have chosen to spend it. Profits are not creamed off and banked in the coffers of a faceless multinational company: they are spent in the area and remain in the area. Local B&B owners, plumbers, cooks, cleaners, furnishers, electricians, kitchen fitters, upholsterers…all benefit. In turn you make your booking direct with the owner of the establishment you have chosen, and all dealings will be direct with them – any questions or issues you have, the owner will be happy to help, and best placed to do so.
